Bensonhurst Park Tree Census with Parks Dept & Pineapple Ride

October 17, 3 pm5 pm.
Free

Pineapple Ride is teaming up with NYC Parks and City Parks Foundation to bring Trees Count 2025 to Bensonhurst Park! Every 10 years, NYC takes stock of its urban forest, and this is your chance to help record the location, size, species, and condition of the trees in your neighborhood park. This event is a hands-on tree census workshop led by NYC Parks staff. Volunteers receive training, tools, and fun giveaways — plus the opportunity to become long-term stewards of Bensonhurst Park’s trees.

You’ll receive training to teach you how to identify tree species, measure size, and assess tree health (branches, leaves, signs of stress, etc.) and split into small groups and survey different zones of Bensonhurst Park. Your findings will help NYC Parks plan tree care, plant new trees, and expand the city’s canopy equitably. After your first event, you’re welcome to keep counting trees on your own or at future events citywide.

You’ll get a tote bag with measuring tape, tree ID guide, and Parks Dept giveaways (hat, button, etc.), training from NYC Parks forestry staff, all materials and access to the Tree Census app, and support from Pineapple Ride volunteers and community leaders.

Register in advance and look for Pineapple Ride volunteers and Parks Dept staff when you arrive. Dress comfortably and be ready to walk around the park for about two hours.
